Let us clear a little spaceA
And make Love a burial placeA
-
He is dead dear as you seeB
And he wearies you and meB
-
Growing heavier day by dayC
Let us bury him I sayC
-
Wings of dead white butterfliesD
These shall shroud him as he liesD
-
In his casket rich and rareE
Made of finest maiden hairE
-
With the pollen of the roseF
Let us his white eyelids closeG
-
Put the rose thorn in his handH
Shorn of leaves you understandH
-
Let some holy water fallI
On his dead face tears of gallI
-
As we kneel by him and sayC
Dreams to dreams and turn awayC
-
Those gravediggers Doubt DistrustJ
They will lower him to the dustJ
-
Let us part here with a kissK
You go that way I go thisK
-
Since we buried Love to dayC
We will walk a separate wayC
