Vers de Soci tA
-
-
We'll cover Love with rosesB
And sweet sleep he shall takeC
None but a fool supposesB
Love always keeps awakeC
I've known loves without numberD
True loves were they and triedE
And just for want of slumberD
They pined away and diedE
-
Our love was bright and cheerfulF
A little while agoneG
Now he is pale and tearfulF
And yes I've seen him yawnG
So tired is he of kissesH
That he can only weepI
The one dear thing he missesH
And longs for now is sleepI
-
We could not let him leave usJ
One time he was so dearK
But now it would not grieve usJ
If he slept half a yearK
For he has had his seasonG
Like the lily and the roseL
And it but stands to reasonG
That he should want reposeL
-
We prized the smiling CupidM
Who made our days so brightN
But he has grown so stupidO
We gladly say good nightN
And if he wakens tenderD
And fond and fair as whenG
He filled our lives with splendorD
We'll take him back againG
-
And should he never wakenG
As that perchance may beA
We will not weep forsakenG
But sing Love tra la leeA
