Lost Nation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH GEGE IJIJ AKAK

Oh we are a lone lost nationA
We who sing your songsB
With his moods and his desolationA
The poet nowhere belongsB
-
We are not of the peopleC
Who labour believe and doubtD
Like the bell that rings in the steepleC
We are in the world yet outD
-
In the rustic town or the cityE
We seek our place in vainF
And our hearts are starved for pityE
And our souls are sick with painF
-
Yes the people are buying sellingG
And the world is one great martH
And woe for the thoughts that are dwellingG
Up in the poet's heartH
-
We know what the waves are sayingG
As they roll up from the seaE
And the weird old wind is playingG
Our own sad melodyE
-
We send forth a song to wanderI
Like a spirit of ill or goodJ
And here it is heard and yonderI
But is nowhere understoodJ
-
For the world it lives for fashionA
For glory and gain and strifeK
And what can it know of the passionA
And pain of a poet's lifeK
