When God had formed the Universe He thoughtA
Of all the marvels therein to be wroughtA
And to His aid then Motherhood was broughtA
-
'My lesser self the feminine of MeB
She will go forth throughout all time ' quoth HeB
'And make My world what I would have it beB
-
'For I am weary having laboured soC
And for a cycle of repose would goC
Into that silence which but God may knowC
-
'Therefore I leave the rounding of My planD
To Motherhood and that which I beganD
Let woman finish in perfecting manD
-
'She is the soil the human Mother EarthE
She is the sun that calls the seed to earthE
She is the gardener who knows its worthE
-
'From Me all seed of any kind must springF
Divine the growth such seed and soil will bringF
For all is Me and I am everything '-
-
Thus having spoken to Himself aloudG
His glorious face upon His breast He bowedG
And sought repose behind a wall of cloudG
-
Come forth O God though great Thy thought and goodH
In shaping woman for true MotherhoodH
Lord speak again she has not understoodH
-
The centuries pass the cycles roll alongI
The earth is peopled with a mighty throngI
Yet men are fighting and the world goes wrongI
-
Lord speak again ere yet it be too lateJ
Unloved unwanted souls come through earth's gateJ
The unborn child is given a dower of hateJ
-
Thy world progresses in all ways save oneK
In Motherhood for which it was begunK
Lord Lord behold how little has been doneK
-
Children are spawned like fishes in the sandL
With ignorance and crime they fill the landL
Lord speak again till mothers understandL
-
It is not all of Motherhood to knowC
Conception pleasure or deliverance woeC
Who plants the seed should help the shoot to growC
-
Better a barren soil than weed and tareC
Or sickly plants that die for want of careC
In poisonous jungles void of sun and airC
-
True Motherhood is not alone to breedM
The human race it is to know and heedM
Its holiest purpose and its highest needM
-
Lord speak again so woman shall be stirredN
With the full meaning of that mighty wordN
True Motherhood She has not rightly heardN
