Long Ago Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EF F G GH AIAI EHEDJH

I loved a maiden long agoA
She held within her hand my fateB
And in the ruddy sunset glowA
We lingered at the garden gateB
-
The splendor of the western skiesC
Lay in a halo on her hairD
I gazed with worship in her eyesC
And deemed her true and knew her fairD
-
'Good night ' I said and turned awayE
She held me with her subtle smileF
I saw her red lips whisper 'stay '-
And so I lingered yet awhileF
-
'I love you love you sweet ' I saidG
She laughed and whispered 'I love you '-
I kissed her small mouth ripe and redG
And knew her fair and deemed her trueH
-
'Twas very very long agoA
And I was young and so was sheI
My faith as love was strong for ohA
The maid was all the world to meI
-
But as the sunset died awayE
And left the heavens cold and blueH
So died my dream of love one dayE
The maid was only fairD
notJ
trueH
