Lippo Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCA DEED FGGF HIIH JKKJ DLLD

Now we must part my Lippo Even soA
I grieve to see thy sudden pained surpriseB
Gaze not on me with such accusing eyesB
'Twas thine own hand which dealt dearC
Love's death blowA
-
I loved thee fondly yesterday Till thenD
Thy heart was like a covered golden cupE
Always above my eager lip held upE
I fancied thou wert not as other menD
-
I knew that heart was filled with Love's sweet wineF
Pressed wholly for my drinking And my lipG
Grew parched with thirsting for one nectared sipG
Of what denied me seemed a draught divineF
-
Last evening in the gloaming that cup spilledH
Its precious contents Even to the leesI
Were offered to me saying Drink of theseI
And when I saw it empty Love was killedH
-
No word was left unsaid no act undoneJ
To prove to me thou wert my abject slaveK
Ah Love hadst thou been wise enough to saveK
One little drop of that sweet wine but oneJ
-
I still had loved thee longing for it thenD
But even the cup is mine I look withinL
And find it holds not one last drop to winL
And cast it down Thou art as other menD
