| Full many a well run race is lost | I |
| A brief half length from the wire | J |
| And many a soul that has fought with sin | K |
| And gained each battle at last gives in | K |

| Or the hoarse hot cry of the pallid lip | L |
| When once we have fallen back | M |
| It is better to keep on stirrup and rein | N |
| The steady poise and the careful strain | N |

| Will carry us under the Judge's stand | O |
| If prayer too does its part | P |
