Life's Track Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDC EEFGGF HIJKKJ LLMNNM OOPQQP

This game of life is a dangerous playA
Each human soul must watch alwayB
From the first to the very lastC
I care not however strong and pureD
Let no man say he is perfectly sureD
The dangerous reefs are pastC
-
For many a rock may lurk near byE
That never is seen when the tide is highE
Let no man dare to boastF
When the hand is full of trumps bewareG
For that is the time when thought and careG
And nerve are needed mostF
-
As the oldest jockey knows to his costH
Full many a well run race is lostI
A brief half length from the wireJ
And many a soul that has fought with sinK
And gained each battle at last gives inK
To sudden fierce desireJ
-
And vain seems the effort of spur and whipL
Or the hoarse hot cry of the pallid lipL
When once we have fallen backM
It is better to keep on stirrup and reinN
The steady poise and the careful strainN
In speeding along Life's trackM
-
A watchful eye and a strong true handO
Will carry us under the Judge's standO
If prayer too does its partP
And little by little the struggling soulQ
Will grow and strengthen and gain controlQ
Over the passionate heartP
