Life's Scars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGI JKJKLDLD MNMNODODThey say the world is round and yet | A |
I often think it square | B |
So many little hurts we get | A |
From corners here and there | B |
But one great truth in life I've found | C |
While journeying to the West | D |
The only folks who really wound | C |
Are those we love the best | D |
- | |
The man you thoroughly despise | E |
Can rouse your wrath 'tis true | F |
Annoyance in your heart will rise | E |
At things mere strangers do | F |
But those are only passing ills | G |
This rule all lives will prove | H |
The rankling wound which aches and thrills | G |
Is dealt by hands we love | I |
- | |
The choicest garb the sweetest grace | J |
Are oft to strangers shown | K |
The careless mien the frowning face | J |
Are given to our own | K |
We flatter those we scarcely know | L |
We please the fleeting guest | D |
And deal full many a thoughtless blow | L |
To those who love us best | D |
- | |
Love does not grow on every tree | M |
Nor true hearts yearly bloom | N |
Alas for those who only see | M |
This cut across a tomb | N |
But soon or late the fact grows plain | O |
To all through sorrow's test | D |
The only folks who give us pain | O |
Are those we love the best | D |
