Life's Scars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGI JKJKLDLD MNMNODOD

They say the world is round and yetA
I often think it squareB
So many little hurts we getA
From corners here and thereB
But one great truth in life I've foundC
While journeying to the WestD
The only folks who really woundC
Are those we love the bestD
-
The man you thoroughly despiseE
Can rouse your wrath 'tis trueF
Annoyance in your heart will riseE
At things mere strangers doF
But those are only passing illsG
This rule all lives will proveH
The rankling wound which aches and thrillsG
Is dealt by hands we loveI
-
The choicest garb the sweetest graceJ
Are oft to strangers shownK
The careless mien the frowning faceJ
Are given to our ownK
We flatter those we scarcely knowL
We please the fleeting guestD
And deal full many a thoughtless blowL
To those who love us bestD
-
Love does not grow on every treeM
Nor true hearts yearly bloomN
Alas for those who only seeM
This cut across a tombN
But soon or late the fact grows plainO
To all through sorrow's testD
The only folks who give us painO
Are those we love the bestD
