Life and I are lovers strayingA
Arm in arm alongB
Often like two children MayingB
Full of mirth and songB
-
Life plucks all the blooming hoursC
Growing by the wayD
Binds them on my brow like flowersC
Calls me Queen of MayD
-
Then again in rainy weatherE
We sit vis a visF
Planning work we'll do togetherE
In the years to beG
-
Sometimes Life denies me blissesF
And I frown or poutH
But we make it up with kissesF
Ere the day is outH
-
Woman like I sometimes grieve himI
Try his trust and faithJ
Saying I shall one day leave himI
For his rival DeathK
-
Then he always grows more zealousF
Tender and more trueL
Loves the more for being jealousF
As all lovers doL
-
Though I swear by stars above himI
And by worlds beyondM
That I love him love him love himI
Though my heart is fondM
-
Though he gives me doth my loverE
Kisses with each breathK
I shall one day throw him overE
And plight troth with DeathK
