Lay It Away Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MDMDLBNB

We will lay our summer away my friendA
So tenderly lay it awayB
It was bright and sweet to the very endA
Like one long golden dayB
Nothing sweeter could come to meC
Nothing sweeter to youD
We will lay it away and let it beC
Hid from the whole world s viewD
-
We will lay it away like a dear dead thingE
Dead yet for ever fairF
And the fresh green robes of a deathless springE
Though dead it shall alaways wearF
We will not hide it in grave or tombG
But lay it away to sleepH
Guarded by beauty and light and bloomG
Wrapped in a slumber deepH
-
We were willing to let the summer goI
Willing to go our own waysJ
But never on earth again I knowI
Will either find such daysJ
You are my friend and it may seem strangeK
But I would not see you againL
I would think of you though all things changeK
Just as I knew you thenL
-
If we should go back to the olden placeM
And the summer time went tooD
It would be like looking a ghost in the faceM
So much would be changed and newD
We cannot live it over againL
Not even a single dayB
And as something sweet and free from painN
We had better let it awayB
