Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEDEFFGHHG IIJJKKLL MNMNOOJMMJPP ABC

Let us be silent for a little whileA
Let us be still and listen We may hearB
Echoes from other worlds not far a wayC
-
City on city rising steeple out topping steepleD
Gaining and hoarding and spending and armies on battle bentE
People and people and people and ever more human peopleD
This is not all of creation this is not all that was meantE
Earth on its orbit spinningF
This is not end or beginningF
That is but one of a trillion spheres out into the ether hurledG
We move in a zone of wonderH
And over our planet and underH
Are infinite orders of beings and marvels of world on worldG
-
There may be moving among us curious people and racesI
Folk of the fourth dimension folk of the vast star spacesI
They may be trying to reach usJ
They may be longing to teach usJ
Things we are longing to knowK
If it is soK
Voices like these are not heard in earth's riotL
Let us be quietL
-
Classes with classes disputing nation warring with nationM
Building and owning and seeking to lead this is not allN
Endless the works of creationM
There may be waiting our callN
Beings in numberless legionsO
Dwellers in rarefied regionsO
Journeying Godward like usJ
Alist for a word to be spokenM
Awatch for a sign or a tokenM
If it be thusJ
How they must grieve at our riotous noiseP
And the things we call duties and joysP
-
Let us be silent for a little whileA
Let us be still and listen We may hearB
Echoes from other worlds not far awayC
