Is It Best? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKL CMNOIBP

O mother who sips sweetened liquorsA
Look down at the child on your breastB
Think think of the rough path before himC
And ask yourself then 'Is it bestB
Shall I foster a love for this poisonD
Instil the thirst into his veinsE
In the fountain he seeks at my bosomF
Sow the rank seeds of death grief and painsE
-
-
'Shall I give him the thirst of the drunkardG
Bequeath him the weapons of crimeH
Can we look for a glass of pure waterI
Dipped up from a fountain of slimeH
Can we look for brave men strong and nobleJ
Where the parents drink poison for foodK
When the body and soul are corruptedL
Can we look for the works to be good '-
-
-
Oh think of the future before himC
There are perils you cannot removeM
Yet this the great highway of sorrowN
Oh guard him from this with your loveO
There are rough paths enough in the futureI
For the feet of the child on your breastB
And lower the glass you are liftingP
And ask yourself then 'Is it best '-
