Intermediary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEFGGHH IJAAKKLLMMNNOOPPQQRS O OWhen from the prison of its body free | A |
My soul shall soar before it goes to Thee | A |
Thou great Creator give it power to know | B |
The language of all sad dumb things below | B |
And let me dwell a season still on earth | C |
Before I rise to some diviner birth | C |
Invisible to men yet seen and heard | D |
And understood by sorrowing beast and bird | D |
Invisible to men yet always near | E |
To whisper counsel in the human ear | F |
And with a spell to stay the hunter's hand | G |
And stir his heart to know and understand | G |
To plant within the dull or thoughtless mind | H |
The great religious impulse to be kind | H |
- | |
Before I prune my spirit wings and rise | I |
To seek my loved ones in their paradise | J |
Yea even before I hasten on to see | A |
That lost child's face so like a dream to me | A |
I would be given this intermediate role | K |
And carry comfort to each poor dumb soul | K |
And bridge man's gulf of cruelty and sin | L |
By understanding of his lower kin | L |
'Twixt weary driver and the straining steed | M |
On wings of mercy would my spirit speed | M |
And each should know before his journey's end | N |
That in the other dwelt a loving friend | N |
From zoo and jungle and from cage and stall | O |
I would translate each inarticulate call | O |
Each pleading look each frenzied act and cry | P |
And tell the story to each passer by | P |
And of a spirit's privilege possessed | Q |
Pursue indifference to its couch of rest | Q |
And whisper in its ear until in awe | R |
It woke and knew God's all embracing law | S |
Of Universal Life the One in All | O |
- | |
- | |
- | |
Lord let this mission to my lot befall | O |
