Intermediary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEFGGHH IJAAKKLLMMNNOOPPQQRS O O

When from the prison of its body freeA
My soul shall soar before it goes to TheeA
Thou great Creator give it power to knowB
The language of all sad dumb things belowB
And let me dwell a season still on earthC
Before I rise to some diviner birthC
Invisible to men yet seen and heardD
And understood by sorrowing beast and birdD
Invisible to men yet always nearE
To whisper counsel in the human earF
And with a spell to stay the hunter's handG
And stir his heart to know and understandG
To plant within the dull or thoughtless mindH
The great religious impulse to be kindH
-
Before I prune my spirit wings and riseI
To seek my loved ones in their paradiseJ
Yea even before I hasten on to seeA
That lost child's face so like a dream to meA
I would be given this intermediate roleK
And carry comfort to each poor dumb soulK
And bridge man's gulf of cruelty and sinL
By understanding of his lower kinL
'Twixt weary driver and the straining steedM
On wings of mercy would my spirit speedM
And each should know before his journey's endN
That in the other dwelt a loving friendN
From zoo and jungle and from cage and stallO
I would translate each inarticulate callO
Each pleading look each frenzied act and cryP
And tell the story to each passer byP
And of a spirit's privilege possessedQ
Pursue indifference to its couch of restQ
And whisper in its ear until in aweR
It woke and knew God's all embracing lawS
Of Universal Life the One in AllO
-
-
-
Lord let this mission to my lot befallO
