Interlude Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC ADAD AEAE

The days grow shorter the nights grow longerA
The headstones thicken along the wayB
And life grows sadder but love grows strongerA
For those who walk with us day by dayB
-
The tear comes quicker the laugh comes slowerA
The courage is lesser to do and dareC
And the tide of joy in the heart falls lowerA
And seldom covers the reefs of careC
-
But all true things in the world seem truerA
And the better things of earth seem bestD
And friends are dearer as friends are fewerA
And love is ALL as our sun dips westD
-
Then let us clasp hands as we walk togetherA
And let us speak softly in love's sweet toneE
For no man knows on the morrow whetherA
We two pass on or but one aloneE
