Integrity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRST KUVWXYZA2G

Immortal life is something to be earnedA
By slow self conquest comradeship with painB
And patient seeking after higher truthsC
We cannot follow our own wayward willsD
And feed our baser appetites and giveE
Loose reins to foolish tempers year on yearF
And then cry 'Lord forgive me I believe 'G
And straightway bathe in glory Men must learnH
God's system is too great a thing for thatI
The spark divine dwells in each soul and weJ
Can fan it to a steady flame of lightK
Whose lustre guilds the pathway of the tombL
And shines on through eternity or elseM
Neglect it till it simmers down to deathN
And leaves us but the darkness of the graveO
Each conquered passion feeds the living flameP
Each well borne sorrow is a step toward GodQ
Faith cannot rescue and no blood redeemR
The soul that will not reason and resolveS
Lean on thyself yet prop thyself with prayerT
For these are spirits messengers of lightK
Who come at call and fortify thy strengthU
Make friends with thee and with thine inner selfV
Cast out all envy bitterness and hateW
And keep the mind's fair tabernacle pureX
Shake hands with Pain give greeting unto GriefY
Those angels in disguise and thy glad soulZ
From light to light from star to shining starA2
Shall climb and claim blest immortality 'G
