In The Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE EGHGIJKJ LMNMEOPO QARA

Sometimes at night when I sit and writeA
I hear the strangest thingsB
As my brain grows hot with burning thoughtC
That struggles for form and wingsB
I can hear the beat of my swift blood's feetD
As it speeds with a rush and a whirE
From heart to brain and back againF
Like a race horse under the spurE
-
With my soul's fine ear I listen and hearE
The tender Silence speakG
As it leans on the breast of Night to restH
And presses his dusky cheekG
And the darkness turns in its sleep and yearnsI
For something that is kinJ
And I hear the hiss of a scorching kissK
As it folds and fondles SinJ
-
In its hurrying race through leagues of spaceL
I can hear the Earth catch breathM
As it heaves and moans and shudders and groansN
And longs for the rest of DeathM
And high and far from a distant starE
Whose name is unknown to meO
I hear a voice that says RejoiceP
For I keep ward o'er theeO
-
Oh sweet and strange are the sounds that rangeQ
Through the chambers of the nightA
And the watcher who waits by the dim dark gatesR
May hear if he lists arightA
