I Shall Not Forget Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GEGE AGAG AHAH

I shall not forget you The years may be tenderA
But vain are their efforts to soften my smartB
And the strong hands of Time are too feeble and slenderA
To garland the grave that is made in my heartB
-
Your image is ever about me before meC
Your voice floats abroad on the voice of the windD
And the spell of your presence in absence is o'er meC
And the dead of the past in the present I findD
-
I cannot forget you The one boon ungivenE
The boon of your love is the cross that I bearF
In the midnight of sorrow I vainly have strivenE
To crush in my heart the sweet image hid thereF
-
To banish the beautiful dreams that are throngingG
The halls of my memory dreams worse than vainE
For the one drop withheld I am thirsting and longingG
For the one joy denied I am weeping in painE
-
I would not forget you I live to rememberA
The beautiful hopes that bloomed but to decayG
And brighter than June glows the bleakest DecemberA
When peopled with ghosts of the dreams passed awayG
-
Once loving you truly I love you foreverA
I mourn not in weak idle grief for the pastH
But the love in my bosom can never oh neverA
Pass out or another pass in first or lastH
