I Didn't Think Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFG HIJIKEL I CMNEOE PMPMAEE BQBQRESIf all the troubles in the world | A |
Were traced back to their start | B |
We'd find not one in ten begun | C |
From want of willing heart | B |
But there's a sly woe working elf | D |
Who lurks about youth's brink | E |
And sure dismay he brings alway | F |
The elf 'I didn't think ' | G |
- | |
He seems so sorry when he's caught | H |
His mien is all contrite | I |
He so regrets the woe he wrought | J |
And wants to make things right | I |
But wishes do not heal a wound | K |
Or weld a broken link | E |
The heart aches on the link is gone | L |
All through 'I didn't think ' | - |
- | |
I half believe that ugly sprite | I |
Bold wicked 'I don't care ' | - |
In life's long run less harm has done | C |
Because he is so rare | M |
And one can be so stern with him | N |
Can make the monster shrink | E |
But lack a day what can we say | O |
To whining 'Didn't think' | E |
- | |
This most unpleasant imp of strife | P |
Pursues us everywhere | M |
There's scarcely one whole day of life | P |
He does not cause us care | M |
Small woes and great he brings the world | A |
Strong ships are forced to sink | E |
And trains from iron track are hurled alack | E |
By stupid 'Didn't think ' | - |
- | |
When brain is comrade to the heart | B |
And heart from soul draws grace | Q |
'I didn't think will quick depart | B |
For lack of resting place | Q |
If from that great unselfish stream | R |
The Golden Rule we drink | E |
We'll keep God's laws and have no cause | S |
To say 'I didn't think ' | - |
