How Does Love Speak? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBA AACCDDA AAEFEGGA AAHHIIJJA AAHHKKLLMMA

In the faint flush upon the tell tale cheekA
And in the pallor that succeeds it byB
The quivering lid of an averted eyeB
The smile that proves the parent of a sighB
Thus doth Love speakA
-
How does Love speakA
By the uneven heart throbs and the freakA
Of bounding pulses that stand still and acheC
While new emotions like strange barges makeC
Along vein channels their disturbing courseD
Still as the dawn and with the dawn's swift forceD
Thus doth Love speakA
-
How does Love speakA
In the avoidance of that which we seekA
The sudden silence and reserve when nearE
The eye that glistens with an unshed tearF
The joy that seems the counterpart of fearE
As the alarmed heart leads in the breastG
And knows and names and greets its godlike guestG
Thus doth Love speakA
-
How does Love speakA
In the proud spirit suddenly grown meekA
The haughty heart grown humble in the tenderH
And unnamed light that floods the world with splendourH
In the resemblance which the fond eyes traceI
In all fair things to one beloved faceI
In the shy touch of hands that thrill and trembleJ
In looks and lips that can no more dissembleJ
Thus doth Love speakA
-
How does Love speakA
In wild words that uttered seem so weakA
They shrink ashamed to silence in the fireH
Glance strikes with glance swift flashing high and higherH
Like lightnings that precede the mighty stormK
In the deep soulful stillness in the warmK
Impassioned tide that sweeps thro' throbbing veinsL
Between the shores of keen delights and painsL
In the embrace where madness melts in blissM
And in the convulsive rapture of a kissM
Thus doth Love speakA
