He That Looketh Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDDECDDC

Yea she and I have broken God's commandA
And in His sight are branded with our shameB
And yet I do not even know her nameB
Nor ever in my life have touched her handA
Or brushed her garments But I chanced to standA
Beside her in the throng A sweet swift flameB
Shot from her flesh to mine and hers the blameB
Of willing looks that fed it aye that fannedA
The glow within me to a hungry fireC
There was an invitation in her eyesD
Had she met mine with coldness or surpriseD
I had not plunged on headlong in the mireE
Of amorous thought The flame leaped high and higherC
Her breath and mine pulsated into sighsD
And soft glance melted into glance kiss wiseD
And in God's sight both yielded to desireC
