Has Been Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCAABBA DEEDFF

That melancholy phrase It might have beenA
However sad doth in its heart enfoldB
A hidden germ of promise for I holdB
WHATEVER MIGHT HAVE BEEN SHALL BEC
Though inA
Some other realm and life the soul must winA
The goal that erst was possible But coldB
And cruel as the sound of frozen mouldB
Dropped on a coffin are the words Has beenA
-
She has been beautiful he has been greatD
Rome has been powerful we sigh and sayE
It is the pitying crust we toss decayE
The dirge we breathe o'er some degenerate stateD
An epitaph for fame's unburied deadF
God pity those who live to hear it saidF
