| For the stricken woman who wept alone | G |

| Borrowed from her the bride the wife | H |

| As she sat in the gloom of her darkened life | H |
| With her widow's grief fresh upon her | I |

| In a golden halo about her | I |
| She had shared his triumphs and worn his name | D |
| But alas he had died without her | I |
| He had wandered in many a distant realm | J |
| And never had left her behind him | K |
| But now with a spectral shape at the helm | J |
| He had sailed where she could not find him | K |

| In the midst of the muffled drumming | B |
| And funeral music and sad display | F |
| That I knew was right and becoming | B |
| Only a thought as the mourning train | L |
