Going Away Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGH CBEBEIAI JKGKEBL JEMEANE JBA BMBM

Walking to day on the CommonA
I heard a stranger sayB
To a friend who was standing near himC
'Do you know I am going away 'D
I had never seen their facesE
May never see them againF
Yet the words the stranger utteredG
Stirred me with nameless painH
-
For I knew some heart would miss himC
Would ache at his going awayB
And the earth would seem all cheerlessE
For many and many a dayB
No matter how light my spiritsE
No matter how glad my heartI
If I hear those two words spokenA
The teardrops always startI
-
They are so sad and solemnJ
So full of a lonely soundK
Like dead leaves rustling downwardG
And dropping upon the groundK
Oh I pity the naked branchesE
When the skies are dull and grayB
And the last leaf whispers softlyL
'Good bye I am going away '-
-
In the dreary dripping autumnJ
The wings of the flying birdsE
As they soar away to the south landM
Seem always to say those wordsE
Wherever they may be spokenA
They fall with a sob and a sighN
And heartaches follow the sentenceE
'I am going away Good bye '-
-
O God in Thy blessed kingdomJ
No lips shall ever sayB
No ears shall ever harkenA
To the words 'I am going away '-
For no soul ever weariesB
Of the dear bright angel landM
And no saint ever wandersB
From the sunny golden landM
