Into the world's most high and holy placesA
Men carry selfishness and graft and greedB
The air is rent with warring of the racesA
Loud Dogmas drown a brother's cry of needB
The Fleet of Creeds upon Time's ocean lurchesC
And there is mutiny upon her decksD
And in the light of temples and of churchesA
Against life's shores drift wrecks and derelictsE
God rules God rules alwayF
-
Right in the shadow of the lofty steepleG
Which crowns some costly edifice of faithH
Behold the throngs of hungry unhoused peopleG
The 'Bread Line ' flanked by charity and deathI
See yonder Churchman opulently doingJ
Unnumbered deeds which gladden and resoundK
The while his thrifty tenant is pursuingJ
The white slave trade on sacred untaxed groundK
God rules God rules alwayF
-
For these are but the outward signs of feverL
Those flaunting signs which through delirium burnM
And the clear seeing eye of each BelieverL
Can note the coming crisis It will turnM
For it has reached its summit ConvalescingJ
The sick world shall arise to strength and peaceN
And earth shall bloom with each and every blessingJ
Life waits to give when wars and conflicts ceaseN
God rules God rules alwayF
-
This is a mighty hour No sounds of drummingJ
No flying flags no heralds do appearO
No Wise Men of the East proclaim His comingJ
Yet He is coming nay our Christ is hereP
And man shall leave his fever dreams behind himQ
Those dreams of avarice and lust and sinR
And seek his Lord yea he shall seek and find HimQ
In his own soul where He has always beenR
God rules God rules alwayF
-
Man longs for God Before the Christ we wot ofS
With His brief mighty message came to earthT
Before His life or creed or cross were thought ofS
The love of love within man's breast had birthT
But blindly through his carnal senses reachingJ
He plucked dead fruit and nothing has sufficedU
Nor can his soul find rest in any teachingJ
Until he knows that he himself is ChristU
God rules God rules alwayF
-
Oh when he knows this truth in all its splendourP
What majesty what glory crowns his lifeV
And one with God his every thought is tenderP
He cannot enter into war or strifeV
His love goes out to every race and nationW
His whole religion lies in being kindX
THIS IS THE CREED THAT MEANS THE WORLD'S SALVATIONW
THE BIRTH OF CHRIST IN EVERY MORTAL MINDX
God rules God rules alwayF
