Friendship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EBEB FGFG EHEH IJIJ

Dear friend I pray thee if thou wouldst be provingA
Thy strong regard for meB
Make me no vows Lip service is not lovingA
Let thy faith speak for theeB
-
Swear not to me that nothing can divide usC
So little such oaths meanD
But when distrust and envy creep beside usC
Let them not come betweenD
-
Say not to me the depths of thy devotionE
Are deeper than the seaB
But watch lest doubt or some unkind emotionE
Embitter them for meB
-
Vow not to love me ever and for everF
Words are such idle thingsG
But when we differ in opinions neverF
Hurt me by little stingsG
-
I'm sick of words they are so lightly spokenE
And spoken are but airH
I'd rather feel thy trust in me unbrokenE
Than list thy words so fairH
-
If all the little proofs of trust are heededI
If thou art always kindJ
No sacrifice no promise will be neededI
To satisfy my mindJ
