Double Carnations Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBDB EFEF GBGB CBCB HIHH DJDJ

A wild Pink nestled in a garden bedA
A rich Carnation flourished high above herB
One day he chanced to see her pretty headA
And leaned and looked again and grew to love herB
-
The Moss her humble mother saw with fearC
The ardent glances of the princely strangerB
With many an anxious thought and dewy tearD
She sought to hide her darling from this dangerB
-
The gardener guardian of this noble budE
A cruel trellis interposed between themF
No common Pink should mate with royal bloodE
He said and sought in every way to wean themF
-
The poor Pink pined and faded day by dayG
Her restless lover from his prison bowerB
Called in a priestly bee who passed that wayG
And sent a message to the sorrowing flowerB
-
The fainting Pink wept as the bee drew nearC
Droning his prayers and begged him to confess herB
Her weary mother over taxed by fearC
Slept while the priest leaned low to shrive and bless herB
-
But lo ere long the tale went creeping outH
The rich Carnation and the Pink were marriedI
The cunning bee had brought the thing aboutH
While Mamma Moss in Slumber's arms had tarriedH
-
And proud descendants of that loving pairD
The offspring of that true and ardent passionJ
Are famous for their beauty everywhereD
And leaders in the floral world of fashionJ
