Delilah Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD AEAEFGFG AHAHDIDI JKHKHLHL JBJBMNMN

In the midnight of darkness and terrorA
When I would grope nearer to GodB
With my back to a record of errorA
And the highway of sin I have trodB
There comes to me shapes I would banishC
The shapes of the deeds I have doneD
And I pray and I plead till they vanishC
All vanish and leave me save oneD
-
That one with a smile like the splendourA
Of the sun in the middle day skiesE
That one with a spell that is tenderA
That one with a dream in her eyesE
Cometh close in her rare southern beautyF
Her languor her indolent graceG
And my soul turns its back on its dutyF
To live in the light of her faceG
-
She touches my cheek and I quiverA
I tremble with exquisite painsH
She sighs like an overcharged riverA
My blood rushes on through my veinsH
She smiles and in mad tiger fashionD
As a she tiger fondles her ownI
I clasp her with fierceness and passionD
And kiss her with shudder and groanI
-
Once more in our love s sweet beginningJ
I put away God and the WorldK
Once more in the joys of our sinningsH
Are the hopes of eternity hurledK
There is nothing my soul lacks or missesH
As I clasp the dream shape to my breastL
In the passion and pain of her kissesH
Life blooms to its richest and bestL
-
O ghost of dead sin unrelentingJ
Go back to the dust and the sodB
Too dear and too sweet for repentingJ
Ye stand between me and my GodB
If I by the Throne should behold youM
Smiling up with those eyes loved so wellN
Close close in my arms I would fold youM
And dropp with you down to sweet HellN
