I want more lives in which to loveA
This world so full of beautyB
I want more days to use the waysC
I know of doing dutyB
I ask no greater joy than thisD
So much I am life's loverE
When I reach age to turn the pageF
And read the story overE
O love stay nearG
-
O rapturous promise of the SpringH
O June fulfilling afterE
If Autumns sigh when Summers dieI
'Tis drowned in Winter's laughterE
O maiden dawns O wifely noonsJ
O siren sweet sweet nightsK
I'd want no heaven could earth be givenL
Again with its delightsK
If love stayed nearG
-
There are such glories for the eyeI
Such pleasures for the earM
The senses reel with all they feelN
And see and taste and hearM
There are such ways of doing goodO
Such ways of being kindP
And bread that's cast on waters fastQ
Comes home again I findP
O love stay nearG
-
There are such royal souls to knowR
There is so much to learnS
While secrets rest in Nature's breastT
And unnamed stars still burnS
God toiled six days to make this earthU
I think the good folks sayV
Six lives we need to give full meedT
Of praise one for each dayT
If love stay nearG
-
But oh if love fled far awayT
Or veiled his face from meB
One life too much why then were suchW
A life as this would beB
With sullen May and blighted JuneX
Blurred dawn and haggard nightT
This dear old world in space were hurledT
If love lent not his lightT
O love stay nearG
