Change Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ BKBK LMLM

Changed Yes I will confess it I have changedA
I do not love you in the old fond wayB
I am your friend still time has not estrangedA
One kindly feeling of that vanished dayB
-
But the bright glamour which made life a dreamC
The rapture of that time its sweet contentD
Like visions of a sleeper s brain they seemC
And yet I cannot tell you how they wentD
-
Why do you gaze with such accusing eyesE
Upon me dear It is so very strangeF
That hearts like all things underneath God s skiesE
Should sometimes feel the influence of changeF
-
The birds the flowers the foliage of the treesG
The stars which seem so fixed and so sublimeH
Vast continents and the eternal seasG
All these do change with ever changing timeH
-
The face our mirror shows us year on yearI
Is not the same our dearest aim or needJ
Our lightest thought or feeling hope or fearI
All all the law of alternation heedJ
-
How can we ask the human heart to stayB
Content with fancies of Youth s earliest hoursK
The year outgrows the violets of MayB
Although maybe there are no fairer flowersK
-
And life may hold no sweeter love than thisL
Which lies so cold so voiceless and so dumbM
And will I miss it dear Why yes we missL
The violets always till the roses comeM
