Camp Followers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDDEFGHEEIJJKJELM MLNO BBPQRSAT

In the old wars of the world there were camp followersA
Women of ancient sins who gave themselves for hireB
Women of weak wills and strong desireB
And like the poison ivy in the woodsC
That winds itself about tall virile treesD
Until it smothers them so theseD
Ruined the bodies and the souls of menE
More evil were they than Red War itselfF
Or Pestilence or Famine Now in this warG
This last most awful carnage of the worldH
All the old wickedness exists as thenE
But as a foul stream from a festering fenE
Is met and scattered by a mountain brookI
Leaping along its beautiful bright courseJ
So now the forceJ
Of these new Followers of the camp has comeK
Straight from God's SourceJ
To cleanse the world and cleanse the minds of menE
Good women of great courage and large heartsL
Women whose slogan is self sacrificeM
Willing to pay the priceM
God asks of pioneers now play their partsL
In this stupendous drama of the ageN
As Followers of the CampsO
-
-
They come in the name of God our FatherB
They come in the name of Christ our BrotherB
They come in the name of All HumanityP
To give their gold their labour and their loveQ
To help the suffering souls in this war riddled earthR
The New Women of the RaceS
The New Camp FollowersA
The Centuries shall do honour to their namesT
