Rhyme Scheme: ABCCAA ADEFAA ABGGAA ADHHAAAA

By and by the maiden sighed by and byA
He will claim me for his brideB
Hope is strong and time is fleetC
Youth is fair and love is sweetC
Clouds will pass that fleck my skyA
He will come back by and by by and byA
-
By and by the soldier said by and byA
After I have fought and bledD
I shall go home from the warsE
Crowned with glory seamed with scarsF
Joy will flash from some one's eyeA
When she greets me by and by by and byA
-
By and by the mother cried by and byA
Strong and sturdy at my sideB
Like a staff supporting meG
Will my bonnie baby beG
Break my rest then wail and cryA
Thou'lt repay me by and by by and byA
-
Fleeting years of time have sped hurried byA
Still the maiden is unwedD
All unknown the soldier liesH
Buried under alien skiesH
And the son with blood shot eyeA
Saw his mother starve and dieA
God in Heaven dost Thou on highA
Keep the promised by and by by and byA
