Blind Sorrow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF AGAG HIHI

One bitter time of mourning I rememberA
When day and night my sad heart did complainB
My life I said was one cold bleak DecemberA
And all its pleasures were but whited painB
-
Nothing could rouse me from my sullen sorrowC
Because you were not near I would not smileD
And from a score of joys refused to borrowC
One ray of light to gild the weary whileD
-
But all the blessing God has given scorningE
I wept because we were so far apartF
And spent my time in idle aimless mourningE
That only kept the grief fresh in my heartF
-
God pity me I know now we were nearerA
With all these intervening miles of spaceG
That life was sweeter and the future dearerA
Than when to day I met you face to faceG
-
God meant to break it gently ease my anguishH
But I rebelled and caviled at His willI
Now seeing His great wisdom though I languishH
In bitter pain I trust His mercy stillI
