Beppo Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH EIEI JKJK

Why are thou sad my Beppo But last eveA
Here at my feet thy dear head on my breastB
I heard thee say thy heart would no more grieveA
Or feel the olden ennui and unrestB
-
What troubles thee Am I not all thine ownC
I so long sought so sighed for and so dearD
And do I not live but for thee aloneC
Thou hast seen Lippo whom I loved last yearD
-
Well what of that Last year is naught to meE
Tis swallowed in the ocean of the pastF
Art thou not glad twas Lippo and not theeE
Whose brief bright day in that great gulf was castF
-
Thy day is all before thee Let no cloudG
Here in the very morn of our delightH
Drift up from distant foreign skies to shroudG
Our sun of love whose radiance is so brightH
-
Thou art not first Nay and he who would beE
Defeats his own heart s dearest purpose thenI
No truer truth was ever told to theeE
Who has loved most he best can love againI
-
If Lippo and not he alone has taughtJ
The arts that please thee wherefore art thou sadK
Since all my vast love lore to thee is broughtJ
Look up and smile my Beppo and be gladK
