Be Not Content Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD DEDE FGFG CHIH

Be not content contentment means inactionA
The growing soul aches on its upward questB
Satiety is twin to satisfactionA
All great achievements spring from life's unrestB
-
The tiny roots deep in the dark mould hidingC
Would never bless the earth with leaf and flowerD
Were not an inborn restlessness abidingC
In seed and germ to stir them with its powerD
-
Were man contented with his lot foreverD
He had not sought strange seas with sails unfurledE
And the vast wonder of our shores had neverD
Dawned on the gaze of an admiring worldE
-
Prize what is yours but be not quite contentedF
There is a healthful restlessness of soulG
By which a mighty purpose is augmentedF
In urging men to reach a higher goalG
-
So when the restless impulse rises drivingC
Your calm content before it do not grieveH
It is the upward reaching of the spiritI
Of the God in you to achieve achieveH
