-
The meadow and the mountain with desireB
Gazed on each other till a fierce unrestC
Surged neath the meadow s seemingly calm breastC
And all the mountain s fissures ran with fireB
-
A mighty river rolled between them thereD
What could the mountain do but gaze and burnE
What could the meadow do but look and yearnE
And gem its bosom to conceal despairD
-
Their seething passion agitated spaceF
Till lo the lands a sudden earthquake shookG
The river fled the meadow leaped and tookG
The leaning mountain in a close embraceF
