At The Window Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD AAEE FFG HHAAIIJJBBKKL MMLL D NDDDDCCAANNOOPQDDD

Every morning as I walk downA
From my dreary lodgings toward the townA
I see at a window near the streetB
The face of a woman fair and sweetB
With soft brown eyes and chestnut hairC
And red lips warm with the kisses left thereC
And she stands there as long as she can seeD
The man who walks just ahead of meD
-
At night when I come from my office down townA
There stands a woman with eyes of brownA
Smiling out through the window blindE
At the man who is walking just behindE
-
This fellow and I resemble each otherF
At least so I'm told by one and anotherF
Though I think I'm the handsomer by far of the twoG
I don't know him at all save to 'how d'ye do '-
Or nod when I meet him I think he's at workH
In a dry goods store as a salaried clerkH
And I am a lawyer of high renownA
Having a snug bank account and an office down townA
Yet I feel for that fellow an envious spiteI
it had no other name so I speak it outrightI
There were symptoms before but it's grown I believeJ
Alarmingly fast since one cloudy eveJ
When passing the little house close by the streetB
I heard the patter of two little feetB
And a figure in pink fluttered down to the gateK
And a sweet voice exclaimed 'Oh Will you are lateK
And darling I've watched at the window untilL
Sir I beg pardon I thought it was Will '-
-
I passed on my way with such a strange feelingM
Down in my heart My brain seemed to be reelingM
For as it happens my name too is WillL
And that voice crying 'darling ' sent such an odd thrillL
Throughout my whole being 'How nice it would be '-
Thought I 'If it were in reality meD
That she's watched and longed for instead of that lout '-
It was envy that made me use that word no doubtN
For he's a fine fellow and handsome ahemD
But then it's absurd that this rare little gemD
Of a woman should stand there and look out for himD
Till she brings on a headache and makes her eyes dimD
While I go to lodgings dull dreary and bareC
With no one to welcome me no one to careC
If I'm early of late No soft eyes of brownA
To watch when I go to or come from the townA
This bleak wretched bachelor life is aboutN
If I may be allowed the expression played outN
Somewhere there must be in the wide world I thinkO
Another fair woman who dresses in pinkO
And I know of a cottage for sale just belowP
And it has a French window in front and heighoQ
I wonder how long at the longest 'twill beD
Before coming home from the office I'll seeD
A nice little woman there watching for meD
