Rhyme Scheme: A B B A A C C D E F F G D G

I at Eleusis saw the finest sightA
-
When early morning's banners were unfurledB
-
From high Olympus gazing on the worldB
-
The ancient gods once saw it with delightA
-
Sad Demeter had in a single nightA
-
Removed her sombre garments and mine eyesC
-
Beheld a 'broidered mantle in pale dyesC
-
Thrown o'er her throbbing bosom Sweet and clearD
-
There fell the sound of music on mine earE
-
And from the South came Hermes he whose lyreF
-
One time appeased the great Apollo's ireF
-
The rescued maid Persephone by the handG
-
He led to waiting Demeter and cheerD
-
And light and beauty once more blessed the landG
