As We Look Back (rondeau) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCA AACD AACCAD

As we look back at our lost Used to BeA
'The light that never was on land or sea'B
Touches the distant mountain peaks with goldC
And through the glass of memory we beholdC
Such blossoms as grow not on any leaA
-
The double leaf upon the poplar treeA
Turns up its silver side to you and meA
And glow worm lanterns light the lonely woldC
As we look backD
-
No sounds we hear but echoes of young gleeA
No winds we feel but west winds blowing freeA
From those fair isles that seem a thousandfoldC
More beautiful than in the days of oldC
And all the clouds that hang above them fleeA
As we look backD
