Answered Prayers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

I prayed for riches and achieved successA
All that I touched turned into gold AlasB
My cares were greater and my peace was lessA
When that wish came to passB
-
I prayed for glory and I heard my nameC
Sung by sweet children and by hoary menD
But ah the hurts the hurts that come with fameC
I was not happy thenD
-
I prayed for Love and had my heart s desireE
Through quivering heart and body and through brainF
There swept the flame of its devouring fireE
And but the scars remainF
-
I prayed for a contented mind At lengthG
Great light upon my darkened spirit burstH
Great peace fell on me also and great strengthG
Oh had that prayer been firstH
