I have been across the bridges of the yearsA
Wet with tearsB
Were the ties on which I trod going backC
Down the trackC
To the valley where I left 'neath skies of TruthD
My lost youthD
-
As I went I dropped my burdens one and allE
Let them fallE
All my sorrows all my wrinkles all my careF
My white hairF
I laid down like some lone pilgrim's heavy packC
By the trackC
-
As I neared the happy valley with light feetG
My heart beatG
To the rhythm of a song I used to knowH
Long agoH
And my spirits gushed and bubbled like a fountainI
Down a mountainI
-
On the border of that valley I found youJ
Tried and trueJ
And we wandered through the golden Summer LandK
Hand in handK
And my pulses beat with rapture in the blissesB
Of your kissesB
-
And we met there in those green and verdant placesB
Smiling facesB
And sweet laughter echoed upward from the dellsB
Like gold bellsB
And the world was spilling over with the gloryL
Of Youth's storyL
-
It was but a dreamer's journey of the brainM
And againN
I have left the happy valley far behindO
And I findO
Time stands waiting with his burdens in a packC
For my backC
-
As he speeds me like a rough well meaning friendP
To the endP
Will I find again the lost ones loved so wellQ
Who can tellQ
But the dead know what the life will be to comeR
And they are dumbR
