An Ode To Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEGHIHI JKJKLMNM CFCFOIOI PFPFQRQR DSDTURUR

Ho sportsman Time whose chargers fleetA
The moments madly drivenB
Beat in the dust beneath their feetA
Sweet hopes that years have givenB
Turn turn aside those reckless steedsC
Oh do not urge them my wayD
There's nothing that Time wants or needsC
In this contented by wayD
-
You have down trodden in your raceE
So much that proves your powerF
Why not avoid my humble placeE
Why rob me of my dowerG
With your vast cellars cavern deepH
Packed tier on tier with treasuresI
You would not miss them should I KEEPH
My little store of pleasuresI
-
As one who frightened flying flingsJ
Her riches down at randomK
Your course is paved with precious thingsJ
Life casts before your tandemK
The warrior's fame the conqueror's crownL
Great creeds for ages cherishedM
Beneath your chariot wheels were thrownN
And crushed to earth they perishedM
-
Although to just and generous deedsC
Your heart is not a strangerF
I have the feeling that one needsC
To guard his wealth from dangerF
And though a most heroic lightO
Oft on your pathway lingersI
I'd hide my treasures if I mightO
From contact with your fingersI
-
You are the loyal friend of TruthP
Go seek her make her strongerF
And leave the remnant of my youthP
To me a little longerF
There's work enough for you beforeQ
Eternity shall wed youR
Why stoop to steal my simple storeQ
Why make me shun and dread youR
-
You do not need my joys I sayD
Home love and friends unitedS
I beg you turn and go the wayD
Where wrong waits to be rightedT
Or pause and let us chat a whileU
I'll listen not too near youR
For oh no matter how you smileU
I fear you Time I fear youR
