I am the refuge of all the oppressedA
I am the boast of the freeB
I am the harbour where ships may restA
Safely 'twixt sea and seaB
I hold up a torch to a darkened worldC
I lighten the path with its rayD
Let my hand keep steadyB
And let me be readyB
For whatever comes my wayD
Let me be readyB
-
Oh better than fortresses better than gunsE
Better than lance or spearF
Are the loyal hearts of my daughters and sonsE
Faithful and without fearF
But my daughters and sons must understandG
THAT ATTILA DID NOT DIEH
And they must be readyB
Their hands must be steadyB
If the hosts of hell come nighH
They must be readyB
-
If Jesus were back on the earth with menI
He would not preach to dayD
Until He had made Him a scourge and againI
He would drive the defilers awayD
He would throw down the tables of lust and greedJ
And scatter the changers' goldK
He would be readyB
His hand would be steadyB
As it was in that temple of oldK
He would be readyB
-
I am the cradle of God's new worldC
From me shall the new race riseL
And my glorious banner must float unfurledC
Unsullied against the skiesL
My sons and daughters must be my strengthM
With courage to do and to dareN
With hearts that are readyB
With hands that are steadyB
And their slogan must be PREPAREN
They must be readyB
-
With a prayer on the lip they must shoulder armsO
For after all has been saidP
We must muster gunsE
If we master HunsE
AND ATTILA IS NOT DEADP
We must be readyB
