A Waltz-quadrille Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDEED AFAGBBHCCD ABABCCDBBD ABABBBDIIDThe band was playing a waltz quadrille | A |
I felt as light as a wind blown feather | B |
As we floated away at the caller s will | A |
Through the intricate mazy dance together | B |
Like mimic armies our lines were meeting | C |
Slowly advancing and then retreating | C |
All decked in their bright array | D |
And back and forth to the music s rhyme | E |
We moved together and all the time | E |
I knew you were going away | D |
- | |
The fold of your strong arm sent a thrill | A |
From heart to brain as we gently glided | F |
Like leaves on the wave of that waltz quadrille | A |
Parted met and again divided | G |
You drifting one way and I another | B |
Then suddenly turning and facing each other | B |
Then off in the blithe chasse | H |
Then airily back to our places swaying | C |
While every beat of the music seemed saying | C |
That you were going away | D |
- | |
I said to my heart Let us take our fill | A |
Of mirth and music and love and laughter | B |
For it all must end with this waltz quadrille | A |
And life will never be the same life after | B |
Oh that the caller might go on calling | C |
Oh that the music might go on falling | C |
Like a shower of silver spray | D |
While we whirled on to the vast Forever | B |
Where no hearts break and no ties sever | B |
And no one goes away | D |
- | |
A clamour a crash and the band was still | A |
Twas the end of the dream and the end of the measure | B |
The last low notes of that waltz quadrille | A |
Seemed like a dirge o er the death of Pleasure | B |
You said good night and the spell was over | B |
Too warm for a friend and too cold for a lover | B |
There was nothing else to say | D |
But the lights looked dim and the dancers weary | I |
And the music was sad and the hall was dreary | I |
After you went away | D |
