A Wakeful Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD AEAEFF AGAGH AIA JJ

In the dark and the gloom when winds were frettingA
Like restless children worn out with playB
I said to my heart 'This task forgettingA
Is harder now than it is by dayB
For a hungry love that hides from the lightC
Like a tiger steals forth and is bold at night 'D
-
The wind wailed low like a woman weepingA
Deeper and darker the dense gloom grewE
And oh for the old sweet nights of sleepingA
When dreams were happy and love was trueE
Before the stars from heaven went outF
In a sudden blackness of dread and doubtF
-
The wind wailed loud like a madman shriekingA
And I said to my heart 'Oh vain vain strifeG
We cannot forget and the peace we are seekingA
Can only be won at the end of lifeG
For see like a lurid and living sparkH
The eyes of the tiger shine through the dark '-
-
The wind sighed low like a sick man dyingA
And the dawn crept silently over the hillI
And I said 'O heart there is no use tryingA
We must remember and love on still '-
And the tiger appeased with its midnight feastJ
Fled as the dawn rose red in the EastJ
