| Singing an ecstasy I could not share | D |
| Played cunning in my thoughts Surely in these | C |
| Pleasures there could not be a pain to bear | D |
| Or any discord shake the level breeze | C |

| It was because the place was just the same | E |
| That made your absence seem a savage force | F |
| For under all the gentleness there came | E |
| An earthquake tremor Fountain birds and grass | G |
| Were shaken by my thinking of your name | E |
