Rhyme Scheme: A BCDCEFGAHIJKLEMN OPEQGRMSTUVAWXN

For E BA

-
The finest day of the weekB
it's circled red on my calendar They come aroundC
all the time the same time each week And evenD
if you miss one it circles aroundC
again It's always Thursday somewhereE
even if it has a name like Jeudi or JeuvesF
or even Gioved igrave it's still circled in darkG
red pen On a Thursday you once told meA
you loved me it was a full moon it was fullH
on my calendar and I looked up and it lookedI
like a rock in a pond covered deep in snowJ
and how faithful it was following me homeK
to my door before you said my name ElizabethL
and I would have replied she roo like a sandpiperE
tucked under a pier on a hazy beachM
if I could speak at allN
-
On Thursdays you would visitO
after working at the fish cannery The following dayP
is fishermen's holiday when the nets would dryE
and the fishermen would mark downQ
appointments on their calendars Umbrellas markG
the coast when you come in off the sea a regaliaR
of umbrellas like giant mixed drinks on the beachM
and on Thursdays when the fishes' heads come offS
they're sorted into a bin some go to China someT
to the North and the rest wind up in our soupU
Why do they must you say do the fish swimV
into your nets Are any named Elizabeth On WednesdayA
I wonder if you'll come to me I write your nameW
on my calendar just in case But if you didX
there wouldn't be fish soup for us allN
