The Machinery Of Remembrances Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EF GHI JKF LMNOP QRST

A wash of swallows against the dark gravel seaA
ushers in the close of winter Inside the sighsB
of waitresses hang themselves on the coat hooksC
attached to the booths of the Shoreside Family Diner RestaurantD
-
Outside schoolchildren chase each other crunching gravelE
under galoshes scurrying towards the swings in the lotF
-
Church bells strikeG
brushing skyward the dark splash of swallowsH
that returned to feed in the children's wakeI
-
Laughter spills out dark and richJ
behind that rust pocked bus abandonedK
in this playground graveyard parking lotF
-
The gravel field reflects waves of heat pouring upL
hazy and wet into the gray sky The boilingM
coffeepots tip the frustrations of the diner patrons over the edgeN
of the counter top to splinter into shardsO
on the checkerboard floorP
-
Their discontent constant as the long closed millQ
dissipates into a cloud of gray mist that washes overR
the stainless walls The children scatter through the yardS
until the shrill bell calls them inT
