North Haven Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEF BGHIH JKCLC MNIOI PQRBS TCUNU

In Memoriam Robert LowellA
-
I can make out the rigging of a schoonerB
a mile off I can countC
the new cones on the spruce It is so stillD
the pale bay wears a milky skin the skyE
no clouds except for one long carded horse s tailF
-
The islands haven't shifted since last summerB
even if I like to pretend they haveG
drifting in a dreamy sort of wayH
a little north a little south or sidewiseI
and that they re free within the blue frontiers of bayH
-
This month our favorite one is full of flowersJ
buttercups red clover purple vetchK
hackweed still burning daisies pied eyebrightC
the fragrant bedstraw's incandescent starsL
and more returned to paint the meadows with delightC
-
The goldfinches are back or others like themM
and the white throated sparrow's five note songN
pleading and pleading brings tears to the eyesI
Nature repeats herself or almost doesO
repeat repeat repeat revise revise reviseI
-
Years ago you told me it was hereP
in you first discovered girlsQ
and learned to sail and learned to kissR
You had such fun you said that classic summerB
Fun it always seemed to leave you at a lossS
-
You left North Haven anchored in its rockT
afloat in mystic blue And now you've leftC
for good You can't derange or rearrangeU
your poems again But the sparrows can their songN
The words won't change again Sad friend you cannot changeU
