North Haven Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDAE BFGHG IJCKC LMHNH OPQBR SCTMT

i In Memoriam Robert Lowell iA
-
I can make out the rigging of a schoonerB
a mile off I can countC
the new cones on the spruce It is so stillD
the pale bay wears a milky skin the skyA
no clouds except for one long carded horse s tailE
-
The islands haven't shifted since last summerB
even if I like to pretend they haveF
drifting in a dreamy sort of wayG
a little north a little south or sidewiseH
and that they re free within the blue frontiers of bayG
-
This month our favorite one is full of flowersI
buttercups red clover purple vetchJ
hackweed still burning daisies pied eyebrightC
the fragrant bedstraw's incandescent starsK
and more returned to paint the meadows with delightC
-
The goldfinches are back or others like themL
and the white throated sparrow's five note songM
pleading and pleading brings tears to the eyesH
Nature repeats herself or almost doesN
repeat repeat repeat revise revise reviseH
-
Years ago you told me it was hereO
in you first discovered girlsP
and learned to sail and learned to kissQ
You had such fun you said that classic summerB
Fun it always seemed to leave you at a lossR
-
You left North Haven anchored in its rockS
afloat in mystic blue And now you've leftC
for good You can't derange or rearrangeT
your poems again But the sparrows can their songM
The words won't change again Sad friend you cannot changeT
