For a Child ofA
-
My grandfather said to meB
as we sat on the wagon seatC
Be sure to remember to alwaysD
speak to everyone you meetC
-
We met a stranger on footE
My grandfather's whip tapped his hatF
Good day sir Good day A fine dayG
And I said it and bowed where I satF
-
Then we overtook a boy we knewH
with his big pet crow on his shoulderI
Always offer everyone a rideJ
don't forget that when you get olderI
-
my grandfather said So WillyB
climbed up with us but the crowK
gave a Caw and flew off I was worriedL
How would he know where to goK
-
But he flew a little way at a timeM
from fence post to fence post aheadN
and when Willy whistled he answeredO
A fine bird my grandfather saidN
-
and he's well brought up See he answersP
nicely when he's spoken toH
Man or beast that's good mannersP
Be sure that you both always doH
-
When automobiles went byQ
the dust hid the people's facesR
but we shouted Good day Good dayG
Fine day at the top of our voicesR
-
When we came to Hustler HillS
he said that the mare was tiredO
so we all got down and walkedT
as our good manners requiredO
