from cinder star to starA
coupling the ends of streetsB
to trains of lightC
-
now draw us into daylight in our bedsD
and clear away what presses on the brainE
put out the neon shapesF
that float and swell and glareG
-
down the gray avenue between the eyesH
in pinks and yellows letters and twitching signsI
Hang over moons wane waneE
From the window I seeJ
-
an immense city carefully revealedK
made delicate by over workmanshipL
detail upon detailM
cornice upon facadeN
-
reaching up so languidly up intoO
a weak white sky it seems to waver thereG
Where it has slowly grownP
in skies of water glassQ
-
from fused beads of iron and copper crystalsR
the little chemical garden in a jarA
trembles and stands againS
pale blue blue green and brickT
-
The sparrows hurriedly begin their playU
Then in the West Boom and a cloud of smokeV
Boom and the exploding ballW
of blossom blooms againS
-
And all the employees who work in a plantsX
where such a sound says Danger or once said DeathY
turn in their sleep and feelZ
the short hairs bristlingA2
-
on backs of necks The cloud of smoke moves offB2
A shirt is taken of a threadlike clothes lineC2
Along the street belowD2
the water wagon comesE2
-
throwing its hissing snowy fan acrossF2
peelings and newspapers The water driesH
light dry dark wet the patternG2
of the cool watermelonH2
-
I hear the day springs of the morning strikeI2
from stony walls and halls and iron bedsD
scattered or grouped cascadesJ2
alarms for the expectedK2
-
queer cupids of all persons getting upL2
whose evening meal they will prepare all dayU
you will dine wellM2
on his heart on his and hisN2
-
so send them about your business affectionatelyJ
dragging in the streets their unique lovesO2
Scourge them with roses onlyJ
be light as heliumP2
-
for always to one or several morning comesE2
whose head has fallen over the edge of his bedQ2
whose face is turnedR2
so that the image ofS2
-
the city grows down into his open eyesH
inverted and distorted No I meanT2
distorted and revealedK
if he sees it at allW
